This series consists of operation memorandums, correspondence, telegrams, translations, despatches, newspaper clippings, reports, field messages, press releases, lists, programs, summary sheets, pamphlets, publications and certificates. The records relate to the coordination of American participation in foreign feature, short and documentary film and television festivals. The subjects included are requests for films, regulations for festival entries, using American motion picture actors as "goodwill ambassadors," political implications of participation or non-participation in a particular festival and reports on festival outcomes including awards won by U.S. entries. Festivals included, but are not limited to, the Vancouver Film Festival, Canada; the Cannes Film Festival, France; the Berlin Film Festival, Germany; the Karlovy Vary, Czechoslovakia; and the Moscow Film Festival, U.S.S.R. Specific records include a report written by actor Sidney Poitier, Chairman of the U.S. Delegation to the Berlin Film Festival of 1964 regarding Poitier's impressions of the success of American participation in the festival (file "Germany-Berlin - International Film Festival, Reports"); a report on a visit to the USSR by a delegation of American film specialists including director Frank Capra (file "USSR-Moscow - Reports, Film (1 of 2)") and photographs of a memorial service for Senator Robert F. Kennedy at the 1969 Moscow Film Festival (file "VI Moscow International Film Festival - Film Personalities (5 of 7)"). Some of the records are in Spanish, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Russian.
